Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate an effectiveness of a LNG-IUD system in functional bleedings treatment in women in perimenopausal age. 33 women, aged 45 - 53 years, with functional bleedings in perimenopausa. The observation - 5 years.

Qualifications to an intrauterine treatment was settled due to created schema which included data from: gynecological anamnesis, previous USG examination and diagnostic hysteroscopy.

Refered to those rules, we formed 3 groups: first - with regular uterine cavity -15 patients, second - with deformated uterine cavity - presence of intramural leiomyomas , not qualified for endoscopic correction-12 patients, third- presence of submucosal leiomyomas or endometrial polyps removed hysteroscopicaly. Each of these three group patients were qualified to LNG - IUD treatment, the third group one month after operative histeroscopy .

After the first month of treatment a noticeable improvement in reducing of bleeding was observed .
Symptoms such as spotting and abdominal pains, just in the second group were observed, but they remitted after next few periods of using LNG - IUD.

Except of the two patients from the second group, where the system did not find the usage all the patients referred good preparation tolerance, comfort and they continued the therapy for the next 5 years. The high efficacy of therapy and a good intrauterine device tolerance, were a result of an accurate patients qualification.

The use of LNG-IUD could be a good alternative method of functional bleedings treatment in perimenopausal patients that can not be qualified for operative intervention.
